The Helping Clint Campaign

Clint needs to go for tests and surgery. The service providers are refusing treatment because of the shortfalls not covered by medical aid.

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
Barack Obama
44th U.S. President

Understanding the background

Community member Clint Giezing is a 28-year-old husband and a father to 2 young children. In 2014 while at work a 300kg A frame collapsed and landed on Clint’s neck. He was knocked out and only regained consciousness while on his way to the hospital in the ambulance. At hospital Clint was assessed and he was told that he had 2 displaced spinal disks in his neck and that he would make a full recovery.

Clint went back to work and tried to carry on as normal but he always knew that something was not right, he was continually experiencing headaches and severe neck pain.

In 2018 Clint was working as a maintenance technician where he experienced a complete black out, he was rushed to hospital and after undergoing a scan, The neurologist informed him that he had a malformation in his brain stem under the C1 & 2 Spinal disks.

The malformation caused a narrowing ventricular passage and this resulted in him having a brain pressure far above the norm, and this was the cause of the headaches and blackouts. Clint was treated with lumber punches and had to endure 9 different lumber punctures in 2018. To make matters worse, Clint was medically boarded so he only had 75% of his normal monthly salary and his wife was retrenched the same year, this resulted in them losing their home and one of their vehicles.

What happend then

It was then decided to install a shunt to drain the excessive pressure from the brain, after the surgery things got far worse and the headaches became unbearable, Clint was told that he was imagining the pain and that it would get better.

After almost a year of suffering, Clint went to a new Neurologist who assessed him and said that the shunt had been placed in the wrong place, and that a further surgery would be needed to correct the misplaced shunt. The new shunt was place in July 2019, the surgery was complicated because the malformation had now grown under the C1 & 2 vertebrae, the disks had to be moved out of the way to allow access to the affected area.

Unfortunately Clint’s symptoms have returned, he needs to undergo testing and ultimately another round of surgery. The service providers are refusing treatment because of the shortfalls not covered by medical aid.

Your support will be greatly appreciated,  Clint is a really nice person who works hard to support his family despite all the health problems he has endured since 2014

We would love to reach the target of R50 000.00 , to reduce the stress and pressures that these outstanding medical bills are causing on this young family and to hopefully have enough to cover the medical tests that Clint so badly needs going forward.
